On April 17, 2015, I spent the afternoon with a class from Notre Dame Secondary School in east Vancouver. We immediately left the innards of the school and found a nice place to sit outside to talk about being outside. Students raised some important considerations that may function as barriers to being outside, and we talked about ways that those could be addressed. Next we took a stroll through the neighbourhood to arrive at a local park. The day was sunny and warm and the energy from the group was high. At the park, we took some time to just play outside. Then we gathered to talk about what specific actions the students might take to increase the amount of outdoor learning at their school. We walked back to the school building and parted with smiles. Looking forward to hearing about what transpires when I next visit in May/June.
Thank you Notre Dame! See you outside soon.
